鄙事（ひじ）に多能なりき少年の日は　立身して自（みずか）ら笑う却って身を壊（やぶ）るを　浴余閑坐して肌は全く浄（きよ）し　曾て是れ綿糸もて瘃（あかぎれ）を縫いし人 （以下小字） 諭吉は少小にして母に事えて家事を執り園に灌ぎ薪を採り凡百の力役為さざる所無し。冬の日に或は手足に皹瘃（あかぎれ）を生じ疼痛に堪えざるもの有らば則ち綿糸もて瘃裂の創口を縫いて灌ぐに熱油を以てす。創も亦輙（すなわ）ち癒ゆ。当時身体の屈強なること知る可し。今は則ち然らず。頃日浴後偶（たまた）ま感を記す。
